India to rest Jasprit Bumrah in 2nd Test? Rohit Sharma drops major hint

India captain Rohit Sharma confirmed that the team was going to rotate its pacers in the long Test season. Speaking ahead of the first Test match against Bangladesh in Chennai, Rohit said that India will follow a process similar to the England Tests, where they had rested Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj for 1 Test each.
India have announced their squad only for the first Test match against Bangladesh. It is expected that either Bumrah or Siraj will be rested ahead of the 3 Test series against New Zealand. India are playing 10 Tests in the run-up to the World Test Championship Final in 2025. The team will take on Australia later this year and play 5 Test matches in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
“Want our best players to play all the game but it’s not possible. You’ve to see what’s best for the team and manage your bowlers accordingly. It all depends on the workload that is being carried by them,” Rohit Sharma said ahead of the first game.
IND vs BAN: Rohit Sharma pre-match comments
“We will monitor that, we’ve been doing that well. Against England, we gave breaks to Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj. So, we will keep assessing them. You want everyone to play all the game, we’ve got a lot of bowlers. We saw exciting prospects in the Duleep Trophy. I am not too worried about the kind of bowlers waiting in the wings,” he further added.
The Indian team has several able fast bowlers in its ranks. The likes of Akash Deep, Mukesh Kumar, Yash Dayal and Arshdeep Singh have done well in the domestic season as well as the recently concluded Duleep Trophy.
The quality of India’s fast bowling reserves was seen in the 2020-21 Australia tour, where India clinched a famous series win despite playing with their third-string side under the captaincy of Ajinkya Rahane. The likes of Siraj, Navdeep Saini and T Natarajan emerged as the heroes from that tour.
